The Gobabeb Training and Research Centre is an internationally recognized Namibian and SADC Training and Research Institution.

Since 1962, Gobabeb has been conducting environmental research in the Namib Desert. In 1997 the Centre became a Southern African Development Community (SADC) Centre of Excellence.

In addition to its highly regarded research, Gobabeb is also involved in Training, Sustainable Development, Appropriate Technology, Education, and Environmental Awareness projects.

The Centre is a joint venture between the Desert Research Foundation of Namibia (DRFN) and the Namibian Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET)

Gobabeb's missionn is to promote sustainable lifestyles, conservation, and environmental rehabilitation in drylands through:

     - Long-term monitoring

     - Training
